2. Oak

Oak is a medium to light colored wood with a very defined grain, exhibiting the occasional mineral streak or pin knot. The wood accepts stain in all color ranges from light to dark in a very uniform and predictable manner.

3. Hickory

Because natural hickory will show extreme color contrasts, many consumers think of it as rustic. The high contrast can be tamed with a darker stain to give the wood a more contemporary look. Also available in knotty hickory.

4. Cherry

Cherry is a beautiful wood that can show off a truly high-end kitchen. Natural cherry will show shades of pink, red and even white or green to a lesser extent. Cherry is also prone to darkening with exposure to natural light or even intense artificial light. The wood mellows significantly with stain application. Available in knotty cherry.

5. Knotty Alder

Knotty Alder is a very beautiful wood. In comparison to pine, knots tend to be larger with more depth. The wood closely resembles cherry wood in grain and color. Knotty alder is usually considered a "rustic" species and is sometimes a viable substitute to knotty cherry.
